The Northwest Indiana Literacy Coalition is a means for individuals, organizations, businesses, and governmental agencies to connnect with providers of basic skill services. The Coalition is an issue driven group. The Coalition is only involded with literacy and literacy related issues. We promote public awareness, cooperative partnerships, information sharing and referrals between literacy programs and communities. Our members come from Lake, LaPorte and Porter counties. To achieve our goals, NWILC has incorporated programs such as the Executive Spelling Bee and Time Out for Reading, has offered Mini Grants, and has hosted special seminars and workshops, such as "Reinventing the Workforce - Strategic Planning for Business, Education, Labor and Community Leaders." Saint Joseph Catholic Church The parish of Saint Joseph Church was established in 1879. We have a 131 year history of being part of the City of Hammond. Many of our parishioners have been and are active community leaders. A number of them were founding families of the city as well as our faith family. Saint Joseph Parish has always been interested and active in helping the citizens of the community lead fuller more enrich lives and the betterment of our city on the whole.
